No to sexual harassment and male-pattern violence in Hamam! Justice for Jesca!

hamam2On 4th of March 2015 two women have been sexual harrassed in the Şifa Hamam in Karaköy. After the first hearing of the trial on the 25th June and the delay of the second one on the 8th of December 2015, we call out to meet in front of Caglayan Courthouse on Thursday, 14th of April at 10.30 am for surveilling the next hearing.

We want to uncover the act in which all the workers of the Hamam collaborated to take advantage of the fact that the two women were tourists from France, did not speak Turkish and were not familiar with the procedures of Hamam. To confront the harassers we went as women to the Hamam, only to find the harassers protected by riot police and once more the masculine mentality of the state became clear!

The women who were subject to this harassment went to the police afterwards to file a complaint, where their statement was not taken properly and instead they were treated badly. At the trial we insist to take the statements of the women serious and to punish the harassers! We will not allow that women face this inequality towards men and this enforcement of violence ever again in a Hamam!

These 2 French female friends of ours are not alone!
As women, in the sense of sex or gender, we are facing male violence due to class, age, sexual orientation, religious orientation and ethnical background; at the same time we are struggling in every space of our lives against this violence!
Let’s support the struggle against sexual harassment against all women and transgender!

Justice for Jesca!

Let’s meet at Çağlayan Court on Thursday, 14th of April at 10.30!

Jesca Nankabirwa, a migrant woman from Uganda, has been killed in September 2014 by a Turkish male throwing her from the balcony. We as women in Turkey, where every day 3 women are killed by males, are aware of this male pattern violence. The killing of Jesca is the consequence of male pattern violence also towards migrant women.

The reports that have been published in the last hearing on 21st of January 2016, strengthen the position that Jesca has been pushed out of the window by force.  İn the next hearing on 14th of April the forensic medicine report will be discussed.

We raise our voices against the discrimination of Jesca as a migrant as well as a woman even after her death and call out for justice!

We’ll not forget Jesca! To show your solidarity join the hearing on Thursday, 14th of April at Çağlayan Court! We’ll meet  at 10.30 in front of the court (Door C)!
