Sexual violence can be prevented. The struggle starts with questioning and changing

Change Starts with Me is a project ‘Sexual Violence Basic Awareness Workshops’ comprised of 5 different modules. We prepared it to change the false information in the society, spread protective-preventive work, remind ourselves of our responsibilities in the struggle against sexual violence, and create awareness so that sexual violence and abuse get reduced.

  • The workshops are intended for adults. (18+)
  • The workshops last 6 hours each; they are free of charge and online. 
  • Institutions/Groups can apply for the workshops. 
  • The number of participants at the workshops is min. 15 – max. 25.
  • The modules do not follow a sequence; they are dedicated modules.

Module.1 Dating Violence and Safe Relationships
Dating violence, definition and types of it, its concepts; common myths in society; features of a safe relationship; protective-preventive approach; struggle and intervention methods
Target group: Psychological counselors, psychologists, social workers, professionals such as lawyers who work with youth, field workers (NGOs, Counseling and Research Centers, Municipality staff)
Module.2 Protective-Preventive Approach to Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse, definition and types of it; rights-based approach while working with children; concepts of consent and boundaries for children; protective-preventive approach; struggle and intervention methods
Target group: Psychological counselors, psychologists, professionals such as social workers who work with children, field workers (NGOs, Counseling and Research Centers, Municipality staff)
Module.3 Sexual Violence, Concepts and Methods of Struggle
Gender and LGBTI+ concepts; sexual violence; definition, types and concepts of sexual violence; common myths in society; support after sexual violence; empowering language and approach
Target group: Psychological counselors, psychologists, social workers, professionals such as lawyers who work with survivors, field workers (NGOs, Municipality staff)
Module.4 Struggle Against Sexual Violence against Animals*
Forms of discrimination; speciesism; definition and forms of sexual violence against animals; social perception and concepts; animal freedom, rights-based approach; struggle and responsibilities
* This module is run in cooperation with HAKİM (Animal Rights Monitoring Committee).
Target group: General
Module.5 Rights-Based Journalism in Sexual Violence
Gender and LGBTI+ concepts; myths about sexual violence; rights-based journalism; empowering language and approach; media coverage of sexual violence; use of correct language and media’s responsibility
Target group: Media professionals

How to apply to our online workshops (since the pandemic):

*We cannot accept individual applications. Workshops are open for organization/group applications. We evaluate the applications based on a ranking of prioritizations such as group diversity, city diversity, equal distribution in module implementation, interest and motivation, equal distribution among months when a workshop will take place, the opportunity to access such workshops, and previous participation in similar training.
